This was originally just meant to be a small test to see if you could recreate a Yoichi Kotabe-like style here (artist known for older Mario artwork, which has thick outlines with heavy line weight, simplistic airbrush shading and sharp highlights under the shading) since I noticed you could do "airbrushing" by blurring a layer, but it comes with large limitations. AFAIK, you can't use sharp brushes on blurred layers, so any shading spilled outside the line art had to be drawn over on a layer above, which was pretty tedious and doesn't work for having proper BGs.
This originally wasn't meant as something more than a simple shape vaguely resembling Lulu's muzzle to test if this type of style could work in theory which is why it looks wonky and unpolished, but then I really got into it and kept adding the rest of her details lol.
I likely won't do this style here again, unless I can find some way to lessen the amount of work required while keeping the shading at least somewhat polished.
