Warnings & Return To Sender

2025-03-08T13:18:56

Janitors, mods and admins now have the ability to warn users for rule breaks (they should've had this ages ago tbh). If you receive a warning, it doesn't mean you're gonna be banned, you just won't be able to use the site until you acknowledge it.

Deleting a pawprint made by someone else will first send it back to the author instead of outright deleting it, if the author then deletes it themselves it will be deleted for real.

Flipbooks

2025-10-07T13:31:44 | 3 comments

Ever wanted to make little animations with your pawprints? Introducing Flipbooks! This new system lets you put together draft pawprints, change the timing/speed, and create animations. You can try this out with the new flipbook button on the sidebar, below the journal button. You will need draft pawprints to use (the 'draft' checkbox in pawprint settings or when drawing something) but I may later increase this to work with any of your pawprints, I want to see if it'd cause spam.

At the start this will only allow up to 16 frames (you can use the same image more than one time, if you wanted a reverse effect) but I may increase this later if needed. Flipbooks will use all the tags combined of each pawprint used, a bit like how pawzzle tags work, and the rating will always be at minimum the highest rated pawprint used - so you can't rate it general/SFW if there's an NSFW pawprint in one of the frames.

- Added the Flipbook system.
- Added a Flipbook tab on the homepage, next to Pawprints.
- Added a Flipbook collection on profiles, to see all flipbooks created by a user.
- Allowed tag/rating editing.
- Added an 'onion skin' selector next to where the parent selector is when drawing pawprints. This will set the background of the canvas to a slightly transparent version of whichever pawprint you select, good for animating.

Other Fixes:

- Fixed default collection not loading on profiles.
- Fixed the bulk pawprint selection.
- XP calculation has been optimised a ton so it's 10 seconds faster to run.
- Text-only pawprints no longer show up on the homepage or count for XP, to stop spam.
- Added new badge conditions so I can make badges for more things.
- Fixed notifications for comments in flipbooks.
- Fixed templates not copying.

User Settings & Search

2025-09-12T12:11:04

- User settings are now on their own page exactly like the new pawprint settings.

- Searching for pawprints no longer takes username/display name into account so someone with 'fox' in their name won't be first for any fox related pawprint searches.

- Fixed some styling issues with the 'load more pawprints' buttons on profile pages.

Account deletion!

2025-09-04T15:02:29

Took a while to make sure it didn't do anything that broke the site (and it still might, let me know if anything breaks that I haven't seen) - but you are now able to delete your account in profile settings. It should work as follows:

- Any pawprints you drew for someone else will now be anonymous. By sending it to them they are the effective owners of the pawprint, you can ask them to delete them before you delete your account if that's what you prefer.
- Any pawprints others drew for you will be sent back to the author's account.
- Any pawprints you drew for yourself will be deleted outright.
- Any turns taken in pawception games will be hidden from public view, to not break the overall game.
- Guides, comments, collections, event entries and all forms of likes and favourites from you will be deleted.

I can not undo this once it is done, so make sure you actually want it deleted!

Friend System

2025-10-03T00:46:03 | 8 comments

You can now send friend requests to users. With this, pawprints and journals have an option to be friends-only. This is kind of a big system so I'm expecting there's some things I forgot to test, please let me know here if anything isn't working as expected.

You can send a friend request from anyone's profile, with the new button next to the follow button. The recipient will then be able to accept/deny your friend request, you will receive notifications along the way (unless you get denied, no notification is sent in that case).

Features:

- Ability to send, accept, and decline friend requests.
- Ability to disable friend requests on your profile.
- Ability to set journals and pawprints as friends-only, so they can only be viewed by friends.
- Ability to hide your friends list from your profile for anyone that isn't you.
- Blocking will remove any friend status.

Other Changes:

- There are now view counts for pawprints and journals.
- The tags section of a pawprint is a lot more organised now.

Streamlining

2025-03-06T15:23:56

I've removed the profile questions feature altogether, it was mostly unused and really needed to be remade from scratch. I might bring it back in the future, but for now it was just adding unnecessary bloat to the site and giving me yet another thing to test for with new updates.

• Fixed a bug with pawprint searches where the user has set allow guests to false.
• Characters are now hidden from guests if the user disallows guests also.
• Fixed a bug with the symmetry button, it was only visual but looked ugly.
• Fixed some styling issues on the homepage, including removing the event calendar that did not fit in at all with the site, the main events page already shows everything that was there.
• Fixed some things that shouldn't have been seen by guests when a user sets allow guests to false.

Homepage Changes

2025-09-17T09:09:55

I noticed some users/potential users were uncomfortable about being so public on the site. Now, to show up on the latest users section of the homepage, you need to have drawn at least one pawprint. This should make things more comfortable for lurkers.

Latest characters on the homepage are also limited to one (the latest) per user, to show more variety to people that may be looking at the site.

I've also removed the last event winners section for now, as it's mostly just been clogging up the homepage and can be seen on the event's page.

e621 integration

2025-11-03T00:31:58 | 1 comment

In your user settings in the first tab, there's a new section for connections - allowing you to input your e621 username, API key (you can get this on your e621 account settings), and preferred artist tag. When these are set and correct, you will be able to share any pawprints directly to e621 in the pawprint settings page, assuming you are both the artist and the owner of it.

This is completely opt-in, you control everything and your API key is encrypted so even I cannot see it.

I will like to say that e621 has quality control - it's possible lower quality pawprints may be removed, so use this for ones you're especially proud of and would otherwise upload somewhere else anyway :3

DMs, Tipping, Drafts and Fixes

2025-01-18T21:45:57

Direct messaging system! It's very basic, but somewhat self explanatory. You can find it next to your notifications in the top right. To start a conversation with someone, just click the message button on their profile.

You can now set a PayPal e-mail in your profile settings, which will enable other users to tip you and put their name on your profile in the brand new tips tab! You are able to select from the most common currencies to use for this.

Drawing a pawprint will now save as a local draft until it's cleared or sent. This means, if you draw something and then leave the page (either accidentally or on purpose), it will be restored when you next return. This is volatile and shouldn't be trusted in all cases, I don't know exactly when the draft will clear from your local storage by itself, but it should solve some issues with lost pawprints due to browser problems.

Fixed some issues with the tooltip from badges being cut off underneath the drawing canvas and some avatars not showing up on the homepage... god I hate CORS headers.

The message limit when sending a report has been raised from 100 to 500 characters, 'cus it was a little too short for some complex reports.

Made it so pawceptions in progress once again show up if you've already participated, but they are not clickable and appear slightly transparent. Also fixed an issue where the draft wasn't clearing after submitting a pawception drawing, as it had different code handling it.

Pawceptions also now show a preview, just like other pawprints, so you can confirm you actually want to send it. The styling has been updated too, so it looks prettier on different window sizes & mobile :3

Everyone may have been logged out as I've changed some stuff that might fix some people randomly logging out. Let me know if that's any better now!

Fixed a bug (hopefully) where the last user's avatar you looked at will show up in the avatar editor if you didn't already have one.

More Pawception Changes

2025-03-07T19:53:26

I'd like to remind everyone that inserting your own OCs or your friends' OCs into Pawception games is not permitted. If the previous turn directly involves your OC, continuing that context is fine. However, adding your own or a friend's OC to a drawing or prompt when it is not relevant is not allowed. Please refrain from doing so.

Additionally, I've made several backend improvements to Pawception. While these changes should enhance stability, there is a possibility of unintended issues. If you encounter any bugs, please let me know. I've also increased the maximum number of turns to 24 to allow for greater participation and longer games.

Updates

2025-02-05T22:05:33

- Put all actions for pawprints on your profile in their own little menu instead of having a ton of buttons on every pawprint.
- You can now send a pawprint from your profile to anyone else's, this is helpful if something was accidentally drawn for the wrong user or you just want to save to your profile before sending it to someone for real. The user it's sent to will have to manually confirm it. The profile that any pawprint is on can be changed with this, if you have any of your own pawprints you'd like to send to other people.
- Fixed the completed page for events being way too bright on dark mode.
- Fixed some other dark mode-related issues with various pages.

Messaging Updates

2025-02-03T03:44:08

It was a lot harder than I expected, but DM messages are now live and even show you if the other person is typing. This should sort a lot of the issues that people were having with the old DM system, and it feels a bit more like discord chatting!

Now I have this system, I can implement things like live updates or even a twitter-style feed that updates without having to refresh.

- New tab for stats, showing all recorded stats for your account.
- New tab for avatar history, letting you see and use old avatars.

Homepage
- Latest pawprints on the homepage will now only show ones that took at least 10 minutes to draw, in an effort to filter out some spam.

Pawprints
- Rating dropdown now doesn't show ratings above what the viewer can see, you also will not be able to send a pawprint that has a rating higher than their maximum.
- You can now send tag suggestions anonymously.
- Fixed an issue where hotkeys stopped working after messing with the settings panel.

Raffles
- Raffles are now shown to everyone regardless of content rating.
- Content rating of a raffle is a 'maximum' not what must be drawn.

Notifications
- Notifications group together where they can to reduce spam.
- A lot of notifications have been fixed to correctly say display names.
- A new notification is sent to followers when a pawception is created.
- Fixed an issue with the notifications page breaking when there is no author on a pawprint.

Suggestions Batch

2025-11-19T07:08:14 | 3 comments

- Expanded suggestion categories, pawprint cooldown, and fixed spacing on the profile bio.
- Updated the profile header to include whether or not the user is accepting art trades (adjustable in settings) and requests.
- Added a global and per-user cooldown to pawprints. 10 per day for now globally, but users can reduce the amount of pawprints from the same user per day in their settings.
- Added the ability for janitors to respond to user reports.
- Fixed an issue with your own requests not showing up.
- Fixed an issue where character avatars appeared as a broken image if the user couldn't see them.
- Fixed an issue where the old /pawprint link was being used instead of /view, causing issues.
- Fixed an issue with pawception drawings giving an error when trying to submit them.
- Updated profile navigation, it shows labels and condenses extra tabs into a 'more' dropdown if your window is too small for them all.
- Moved flipbooks, scrapbooks and drafts to special collections/folders in the gallery. Drafts are only visible to you, but flipbooks and scrapbooks are public by default (but can be disabled in user settings so only you can see them).
- Added a report button to pawprint and flipbook cards, that takes you to the postbox on the correct page with the link filled out already.
- Added more categories to each section of the postbox.
- You can now suggest event themes in the postbox.

Tag Database

2025-11-21T13:37:29 | 6 comments

This is a little experimental so some stuff might not work, but I decided to make tags a bit more like e621 - you can see the full database and suggest changes (if it needs aliases, a parent etc), which staff can then approve or deny. It also shows all undefined tags that will need to be sorted at some point! https://pawprint.ing/tags

XP Overhaul + Other Changes

2025-11-25T17:50:17 | 6 comments

XP System Overhaul
This has been done as the system was not made for this many users, so I never expected people to reach higher levels so quickly. It also kinda broke recently so I had an excuse to change it. Your levels will have changed, this is not a bug. The levels just require more XP to get to now.

- XP is now calculated immediately and given/removed when you perform an action, instead of being calculated every hour.
- XP required for the next level has been increased, its now quadratic instead of linear (it will keep getting bigger - lower levels are faster, higher levels are slower).
- Pawprints no longer give any XP if they are made in less than 5 minutes.
- Interaction-based XP has been increased (referral signups, marks, receiving pawprints) as well as placing top 3 in events.
- Furdles now give XP for completion based on difficulty (85 a day for completing all 3).
- Every badge gives a flat 100 XP, some were not giving XP at all.
- Suggestions/reports being actioned/accepted now gives XP.

The benefits of this are that it's a lot less hardware intensive on the site. Looking through every single user, every hour, all of their pawprints, all marks.. it was a lot. I'm also now able to give/remove XP directly, if needed. Having your XP update immediately is also nice to see.

Other Changes
- Fixed dark mode making the request guidelines invisible.
- Changed to gevent from eventlet, saving a ton of memory and processing power (this is nerd stuff you don't need to worry about it).
- Huge site performance overhaul, everything should be faster and there should be way less bad gateways.
- The Furdle keyboard now shows which letters you've tried in their correct colours, making it easier to see which ones you should try next.
- Fixed timezones showing in request bans.
- The marked folder now shows the correct pawprints again.
- Added 2 more difficulties to Furdle (4 letters and 6 letters).
- Fixed the old registration page not working.
- Added brush smoothing/anti-aliasing in the settings panel. This should make smooth brushes like the OG pawprinting.
- Fixed the staff page not showing the entire staff bio.
- Allowed tag suggestions to suggest removing parents.

New Tagging System

2025-11-22T12:56:35 | 2 comments

It's about the time I futureproofed the site by replacing the old, slow tagging system that's been here since the site launched. How it worked previously is that every single tag was stored in a text line on each pawprint, which made searching for tags in pawprints and updating them very slow and processor intensive. If you can imagine, it had to look through each tag string to find a single tag every single time.

Now, tags on pawprints are stored separately. There's a simple link to which tag is being used and which pawprint it belongs to. Renaming a tag for every pawprint is a matter of just changing the name, as everything is done by IDs now.

Some stuff may have broken. I've done a lot of testing myself, but if anyone notices anything please comment here or submit a bug report.

Badge Overhaul

2026-01-25T18:18:24 | 9 comments

I rewrote how badges work almost entirely - now each one has a level (and I can set different icons for each level), meaning instead of having several badges that are related to eachother, for example 'Draw 10 Pawprints' and 'Draw 20 Pawprints', they're now all levels of the same badge. You will get a notification when a badge upgrades and the XP as well, giving you some extra XP in return for losing the now deleted badges.

It's a lot easier for me to work with this way, and means you can always keep progressing the badges even if there aren't any more to get :3

More drawing improvements

2025-11-04T21:56:45 | 4 comments

Something that's been bothering me for a while - you can now start drawing from 'outside' the main canvas, making it easier to draw things from the edges of the canvas. You'll see what I mean if you try drawing from the gray background behind the actual drawing canvas.

Gonna be focusing some energy on improving drawing even more, since it is the main aspect of the site and all.
